The sensory system, the skin, is the most important organ system of the body. Unlike other senses, a human being cannot survive without the physical and behavioural functions performed by the skin. Ample research demonstrates that tactile stimulation is extremely important for the development and maintenance of physiological and psychological regulation in infants, children and adults.
The magnificence of the physical and energy human anatomy allows Massage Therapy to be one of the most powerful healing tools of any healing system.
For the last ten years I have been practicing and studying ancient traditions of massage like the Ayurvedic from India and Kahuna from Hawaii. I am especially interested in trauma. I consider massage an art where the depth of the healing can be profound.
Ayurvedic Massage Therapy
Widely regarded as the oldest form of healthcare in the world, Ayurveda is an intricate medical system that originated in India over 6,000 years ago. Ayurveda emphasizes re-establishing balance in the body through diet, lifestyle, exercise, and body cleansing, and on the health of the mind, body, and spirit.
This is a rare and powerful system of bodywork that combines deep tissue massage with coordinated breath work and yoga stretching. Deep tissue massage with herbal oils and plant medicines soothes and nourishes the musculature and soft tissues of the body, releasing physical tension, and preparing the receiver for assisted yoga stretching. Through synchronized breath work, the receiver is led progressively deeper into assisted yoga stretches that correct postural imbalances and restore harmony to the body and mind. In this state of harmony, the space for deep healing is present.
Anyone wishing to explore new depths of health in body and mind will benefit greatly from this work.
Is a development in the tradition of powerful massages from Central India. The massage often used to be given to warriors to make their body more supple and flexible and at the same time relieve their stress and rejuvenate their bodies.
This is a massage that is fulfilling the requirement of deep, powerful work that goes further into the muscular level bringing a profound balance and the body back to its natural state of harmony.
Abhyanga is a gentle but firm whole body massage from head to toe using warm medicated oils. This traditional massage is commonly called Kerala Ayurveda Massage. A regular Abhyanga protects from stress, anxiety, exhaustion and Vata disorder. It nourishes the body, extends the life span, provides good sleep, improves the skin texture, improves the vision and provides better physical stability.
Abhyanga treatment is the best way to control and balance Vata in the body. Vata is the predominant entity in the sense of touch and skin is the organ of touch.
Lomi Lomi Nui Ceremony
Lomi Lomi Nui is an ancient shamanic Hawaiian practice, a transformational sacred massage which contacts and realigns the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body, creating quantum leaps in our ability to navigate all aspects of life in harmony with our deepest self.
Training in this sacred art begins with our own journey of awareness into the physical body unlocking old patterning, blockage and trauma to allow a fuller and more open flow throughout our being. Lomi Lomi Nui facilitates a peeling away of conceptual reality, allowing a deep inner awareness to arise. Limiting beliefs, thoughts and emotions – reflected in the individual’s patterns of physical holding – are shaken loose by the deeper movement of wholeness emerging. Rather than simply disappear, these energies are released in to the sphere of acceptance. The ‘ohana (family) of our internal being is reunited and we begin to respond to life from a place of more freedom and wholeness. We are reconnected to our own sacredness and thereby awakened to the sacredness of all that surrounds us. How this unfolds is unique to each person, and different each time it is experienced.
The ancient lineage, energetic touch, breath, movement and music combine to transmit new possibilities to the body/mind. In scientific language, one could say that this work opens up new neural pathways of memory, emotion and thought.
